31st Ford & Friends San Diego and Pickups Limited Car Show

31st Ford & Friends San Diego and Pickups Limited Car Show

The Poway Cruisers enjoyed another nice show in Escondido’s Grape Day Park on Saturday, 6/9 from 9a-2p, the  31st Annual Fords and Friends San Diego and Pickups Limited Car Show. This is always a fun show on the grass, with good food, loads of great raffle prizes, fantastic awards, and a non-stop DJ.

We started the day with only 3 cars in our little caravan from the Rancho Bernardo Mercado Shopping Center: Earl Asbury in his ’65 Corvair Convertible, Ed & Carol Asbury in their ’33 Ford 4dr Sedan, and Joyce and me in our ’37 Buick Coupe. The drive was quick and uneventful, arriving about 7:30AM. The park looked pretty full already, but we scored a great place to bivouac right in the center of the park. Once parked and settled in, we made the rounds and found another 8 members and their cars scattered around the show: Bill & Peggy Troop had their ’68 Mustang GT/CS, Bill Avery close by with his ’66 Ford Ranchero, a little farther down the line was Joe Musick and family with their ’69 Opel GT, Dale Vermillion with his ’65 Corvette Roadster, Joyce & Lou Heyn and their ’87 Camaro, Chuck & Jenny Bush was there with their ’29 Ford Model A Sedan, and Alex and Jean Ann Abosamra with their ’32 Ford Roadster.

The day started nice and cool, but warmed up nicely with an on-shore breeze keeping it very comfortable. Once the cars where dusted off, several took advantage of the coffee and donuts that were available for a small donation, or trekked across the street to George’s for a full breakfast. Later, around noon, everyone took advantage of the lunch that was included with registrations: giant hot dogs, polish sausages, or hot links, chips, beans, 2 cookies, and a cool drink.

Right on time at 1:00 PM the Grand Prizes, 50/50 and awards ceremony took place with the Poway Cruisers garnering their fair share of the loot: The ladies won several raffle prizes, Earl Asbury’s Corvair took home a Sponsors Pick Award, George & Joyce Cowman’s Buick took the “Bad to the Bone” Award, and Joyce Cowman won one of the Grand Prizes (Cash!).

Altogether, another fantastic day in SoCal, just another day in paradise where the Poway Cruisers did bring the fun!
