Fords & Friends / Pickups Unlimited Car Show 6-10-17

30th Fords & Friends / Pickups Unlimited Car Show 6-10-17

What started out as a fairly gloomy day ended up being a fabulous SoCal day. Five of us met in the Rancho Bernardo Mercado Shopping Center parking lot at 7:00 AM as planned and made the run to Grape Day Park, arriving around 7:30 AM. We met up with Bill Troop and Bill Avery who had beat us there. We found a very nice spot to bivouac under the pepper trees and settled in for the morning. We kept hearing reports of rain, but the most we saw was a little mist around 8:30 AM. By 9:00 AM 4 more members and their cars showed up bringing our total participation to 11 cars and 16 members.

The host clubs, Fords & Friends and Pickups Unlimited put on a very nice show this year.  Lots of raffle prizes and a good sized 50/50, several vender exhibits, excellent rock & roll music, and an All American Lunch (Monster hot dog, baked beans, pickle, cookie, and drink) that was included in the registration. And, the June Gloom cleared out about 11:00 AM, and it warmed up some, but still stayed very comfortable.

Around 1:00 they finished up the raffle, with members Joyce Cowman & Carol Asbury scoring some very nice prizes, but not the 50/50. Then came the awards, with Earl Asbury’s ’29 Ford Model A Sedan Delivery and Joe Musick’s ’69 Opel GT taking home awards, thus ending another great relaxing day in Escondido.
