Poway Cruisers 9th Annual Members Picnic

Poway Cruisers 9th Annual Members Picnic

The Poway Cruisers 9th Annual Picnic was enjoyed on Saturday, 9/26 at beautiful Poway Lake Park, Area 6, overlooking the lake.  We had 43 members and their families participate in the fun and food, and 18 member classic vehicles on display in the reserved parking area. The setup crew arrived about 6:45 AM and had everything setup by 7:30 AM. Lynn Bryan saved the morning by bringing a bunch of very delicious donuts  to share with the setup crew and some of the early arrivers.  By 9:30 AM most of the participants had arrived, with stragglers continuing to arrive right up until Noon.

The weather was pretty warm, but not unbearable. Most of the day there was a cooling breeze, and we had 6 popup canopies setup for plenty of shade. Several members brought games, such as Cornhole and Bingo to provide some friendly competition.

Food, we had plenty. Bill Bryan and Earl Asbury took on the chefs duties,  serving over 35 hamburgers, 18 hotdogs, and 8 beer brats and all the trimmings.  We probably would have served more beer brats, but I miscalculated hot long it would take for them to cook properly, so everyone filled up on hamburgers and hotdogs before the brats were ready.

Along with burgers, hotdogs, and brats provided by the club, members provided a potluck of almost any kind of picnic food you’d like: Potato, pasta, fruit, mexican macaroni, and vegetable salads, coleslaw, homemade western style Chili, baked beans, chips and dip, fresh cut fruits, even a great chili relleno casserole.  There was a whole table of deserts, including a berry pie, lots of different cookies, brownies, lemon cakes, cupcakes, and more.  No body went away hungry.

The picnic lasted to about 2:30 PM, and we were packed and everything cleaned up by a little after 3:00 PM.

Many thanks to those who helped with the setup and cleanup: Bill and Lynn Bryan, Pete and Coralee Walker, Joyce Cowman, and Earl Asbury for setup. As for the cleanup, we had the same crew plus many others lend a hand in taking down all the popups,  packing up the cooking gear, and generally picking up the area leaving it in better condition than we found it.

The 9th Annual Members Picnic was a very pleasant way to spend an early fall day visiting and sharing good food with friends. Can’t wait to do it again next year.
