Poway Cruisers at the East County Cruisers 15th Annual Holiday Car Show

Poway Cruisers at the East County Cruisers 15th Annual Holiday Car Show

What a great day! We started the day as planned with seven (7) member’s cars caravanning to Bates Nut Farm, leaving the rendezvous point at 6:30 am. Making the drive were:
Walter Borra in his ’34 Chevy Sedan
Jerry Reed and his ’32 Chevy Sedan
Chuck Kramer in his ’28 Chevy Touring
Sam & Brenda Grinceri in their ’32 Ford Roadster
Fred LaCorte and his ’50 Olds Sedan
John McDowell in his ’38 Ford Tudor
George & Joyce Cowman in their ’37 Buick Special Coupe

Also joining the Cruisers where several friends of Fred LaCorte:

Dave Munyon driving a ’40 Ford Coupe
Don Baldwin in his ’50 Olds Coupe
Joe Bongovoni and his stunning ’42 Studebaker Convertible

With the recent improvements made to Bear Valley Parkway, the drive through Escondido to Valley Center was quick and trouble free. We got parked in a fairly decent spot and checked in, then setup a little bivouac for some shade. The morning was pretty cool, but the day warmed up nicely by mid-morning.

After everyone filled up at the pancake breakfast, we spent the morning swapping lies and checking out the rest of the field.  As usual, this show attracted a lot over really nice classics and hot rods. While making the rounds I found another seven (7) Member cars in attendance bringing our total to 14 plus the 3 friends:

Ron & Kathy Shedd’s ’40 Ford Tudor
Bill & Linda Bryan’s ’70 Oldsmobile Cutlass
Joyce & Lou Heyn and their Camaro
Brenda Anthony’s ’99 Jeep
Hollywood & Vine’s ’56 Chevy
Bill & Peggy Troop’s ’68 Mustang
Bill Avery’s ’65 Ford Ranchero

About 1:00 PM Charge Steve started the awards ceremony with the usual fun and games.  The time he staged a mock demolition derby, recruiting representatives from each of the car clubs present. Linda Bryan was volunteered by Kathy Shedd to represent the Poway Cruisers, which she did quite well.

By 2:30 PM it was all over, and we all headed home. It was another very successful event for the East County Cruisers, raising money for their efforts to help local military families during the holidays and year round.
