Ramona Oaks and 50’s Rock in the Park Car Show

Event Report: Ramona Oaks and 50’s Rock in the Park Car Show, 9/16/2017

What a great way to spend Saturday evening: great company, good rock & roll music, and a nice drive in the country. As planned, 4 of us met in the parking lot of Lowes Home Improvement on Poway Road at 3:15p, and were on our way to Ramona by 3:30p.  In our little caravan where: Ed and Carol Asbury in their ’33 Ford 4dr Sedan, Earl Asbury and his friend Bessie in his ’57 Chevrolet Nomad, Bob and Belen Sarwacinski driving their ’64 Ford Falcon Ranchero, and George and Joyce Cowman in their ’37 Buick Coupe. The drive was nice and we picked up Greg Thiem in his ’36 Ford Coupe along the way. We arrived at the park a few minutes before 4:00p, picked our spot and got parked. You can tell they use well water for the park, as the grass was very green. We also found member Jerry Keller had beat us to the show with one of his MOPAR racers, bringing the club participation to six (6) cars.

We setup our little bivouac in a nice spot and settled in the enjoy the music, conversation, a picnic dinner, and checking out the other 60+ cars in the show. The show had a good mixture of vehicles, including classics, customs, hot rods, 4X4’s, sports cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Crystal Carle runs the show for San Diego Country Estates, and she does a very nice job.  Three (3) car show awards are presented (1st, 2nd, 3rd places) all determined by peer and public voting. None of our cars made the cut, but our friend in the Heartbeat Classics Car Club, Bob Romeo’s red and white ’56 Chevy Convertible took Best of Show (1st Place). Congratulations, Bob.

One more event that shows that the Poway Cruisers do bring the fun.
