East County Cruisers Summer Fling: It’s a Car Show Thing

East County Cruisers Summer Fling: It’s a Car Show Thing, July 22, 2018

Once again Steve, Sam, Shari, and the whole East County Cruisers Car Club put on a very enjoyable get together on the grass of Town Center Community Park in Santee. They were blessed with chamber of commerce weather for the day, and attendance of over 300 vintage, hot rods, customs, classics, lowriders, 4 wheel drives, muscle cars, Corvettes, and race cars, all coming together to raise money for Home Front San Diego and other local families in need.

Poway Cruisers that made the show were: John McDowell in his ’38 Ford Sedan, Benda Anthony in her ’99 Jeep Wrangler, Lou and Joyce Heyn in the ’68 Camaro, Dan Martin and his ’62 Corvette Roadster, Paul & Angie Rancour in their ’97 Dodge Ram, and George & Joyce Cowman with their ’37 Buick Special Coupe. They all arrived about the same time, just in time to grab some choice parking spots, set up camp, and have some breakfast. The day warmed up, but not too warm, with a nice cooling breeze blowing most of the time.

Around 12:45PM, Steve Lordigyan got the afternoon entertainment going with a balloon pop contest, followed by the always hilarious water balloon toss contest. The balloon pop was won by a young boy about 10, with the water balloon toss going to the young guys from the Dirty Bombs Car Club. They obviously had practiced. Congratulations, Dirty Bombs!

With the frivolity out of the way, Steve got down to the serious stuff, presenting awards. As is the usual case, they had over 65 awards to present. When the dust settled, and all the trophies had been distributed, three Poway Cruisers went home with loot: John Mc Dowell’s ’38 Ford, Dan Martin’s ’62 Red Corvette, and George & Joyce Cowman’s ’37 Buick Coupe.

Everything was done and we departed for home around 2:00 PM. Once again, the Poway Cruisers had a ball. Thanks, East County Cruisers!
