Main Street American Car Show, July 28th, 2018

What a wonderful day on the Bay! The Corvette Owners Club of San Diego could not have asked for a more beautiful day to show case over 500 beautiful, interesting, and awe inspiring automobiles, all to benefit the San Diego Center for the Blind. I don’t know how much they raised for the Center, but they and everyone had a wonderful time making it all happen.

We met up with Jerry and Bonnie Badders at the 7/11 on Carmel Mountain Road at 8:15 as planned and headed for the Embarcadero Marina Park North, arriving at the park at about 8:45 AM. After waiting in line for a short time we found our assigned parking spot and setup camp. We scored great spots on the marina side of the park with a really nice view of the marina, and plenty of room for our popup. Looking around the show we found that Fred Adler had also made the show with his Porsche Targa and was parked with the “E” Class cars.  We also found Dale Vermillion and his ’67 Corvette parked with the “J” class cars.

About 9:30, Jerry, Joyce, and I headed for Busters Beach Café for a nice breakfast. Bonnie held down the fort and played with her dog Murphy while we had breakfast.

After breakfast, it was time to buy raffle tickets and make the rounds and fill out the People’s Choice ballot for the 25 categories. As many of the vehicles are parked by Class, it does make the voting a little easier.

10:30 AM started the raffles, with Joyce and Bonnie collecting some loot and enjoying the suspension. About 12:30 PM, we cashed in the free lunch ticket for a nice meal (Garden Salad and Bratwurst sandwiches, chips, drink)

As advertised, the awards ceremony started right on time. Poway Cruisers participants were well represented: George & Joyce’s ’37 Buick and Fred Adler’s Porsche garners 2nd place in their respective classes, and Dale Vermillion’s ’67 Corvette to 1st Place in its class, making it eligible for Best of Show at Next year’s event.  Congratulations all.

By 3:15 PM all the fun was done, and we all headed for home. Once again, the Poway Cruisers did bring the fun!
